Who Sponsored the "Bad" Bills?

There were two really bad bills for animals in the 2011 session of the Maryland General Assembly: the livestock bill (supported by the Farm Bureau) and the extended Sunday hunting bill (supported by the Department of Natural Resources, DNR).  Luckily, we defeated both these bills in committee.

But which legislators sponsored these bills?  And who voted for them in committee?

Here are links to the bills - with the sponsors listed at the top of each bill - and a link to the committee votes.  Please review this information and then send these legislators a polite note asking why they supported these bills that hurt animals.

Maryland Livestock and Poultry Care and Advisory Board, SB 254 & HB 676Establishing the Maryland Livestock and Poultry Care Advisory Board; establishing the membership and charge of the Board; requiring the Board to elect the chair of the Board; providing for the terms of the members and chair of the Board; etc.

House sponsors: Otto, Afzali, Cane, Conway, Eckardt, Frank, Haddaway Ricco, Hershey, Hough, Jacobs, Malone, McDermott, McIntosh, Norman, Smigiel

Senate sponsors: Middleton, Colburn, Dyson, Garagiola, Glassman, Jennings, Klausmeier, Mathias, Pipkin, Young

Extended Sunday Hunting, SB 45 & HB 129Repealing specified provisions of law authorizing a person to hunt deer on private property in specified counties on specified Sundays under specified circumstances; authorizing the Department of Natural Resources to allow a person to hunt deer on private property in specified counties on specified Sundays under specified circumstances; etc.

House Sponsors: Holmes, O'Donnell, Beitzel

Senate Sponsors: Astle

Note;  (Senator Simonaire was the only yes vote in committee on this bad bill.)Share this
