Animal Politics 101 - How we'll get Statewide Spay/Neuter for Maryland

The concept of political involvement on behalf of animals is a new one for many people. Most animal-lovers think of rescue as the only solution to animal suffering, so there's some confusion in some quarters about what MVFA does and how MVFA helps animals. You might also be asking what MVFA does with donations? And how do those donations help get laws passed to help animals?
These are all good questions! Here's an attempt at a succinct and straighforward answer:
1) Businesses, individuals and Political Action Committees (PACs)---like MVFA---regularly make donations to our state legislators. These donations are how people get the attention of lawmakers and are public information; you can look up the donations to any state legislator at the website for the Maryland Board of Elections. (See link at below right.)
2) As an example, here's a link to the list of donations received by one particular legislator: http://www.mdelections.org/campaign-finance/advanced-search/contributions?acctno=A50
There's nothing unusual about this list of donations so we don't mean to single this legislator out for anything inappropriate. Just look over the list and see that donations from $200-$500 are the norm. A donation in this range is how that organization or business or individual gets the attention of that legislator.
Now you know how MVFA will get a statewide spay/neuter program passed in Maryland. We'll take your donations and give them to legislators on behalf of all the suffering animals who desperately need a statewide spay/neuter program for our state.
Will you buy a ticket to our fundraiser with special guest Wayne Pacelle on July 21? You'll learn more about MVFA's work, network with like-minded animal-lovers and get to meet the foremost animal advocate in the U.S.: Wayne Pacelle. Purchase at www.VoteAnimals.org.
Note: please know that MVFA is an all volunteer organization. Every single penny goes to our work to get animal protection laws passed in the state of Maryland.
